"Listen, my children, to a father's instruction; pay attention and gain understanding. I give you sound learning, so do not forsake my teaching. For I too was a son to my father, still tender and cherished by my mother. Then he taught me, and he said to me, 'Take hold of my words with all your heart; keep my commands, and you will live. Get wisdom, get understanding;'. (Proverbs Ch 4 vs 1 to 5).
In a moment of reflection King Solomon looks back on his upbringing and thinks of his father, King David, and his mother and their wise counsel to him. They direct him in the way of Godly wisdom and understanding, and the legacy of David is that the wise Solomon would be the one to build a temple to God. We read of Jesus being presented as a baby in a later temple in Jerusalem and that, '...the child grew and became strong; He was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon Him.'. At age 12, Jesus again visits the temple and speaks with the teachers where we read that they were amazed at His understanding and His answers. As the Son of God here is complete Godly wisdom and perfect understanding. Our Lord's brother, James, writes in his Letter, '..the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness. (Ch 3 vs 17 and 18). May we as children of God display in our lives the heavenly wisdom that comes from our faith and trust in our ever wise Saviour.
'Abba Father, let me be, Yours and Yours alone; May my will forever be evermore Your own. Never let my heart grow cold, never let me go....Abba Father, let me be, Yours and Yours alone'.
A prayer:- "Fill me, Lord, with the power of Your Holy Spirit, that I might display Your heavenly wisdom in my life, Amen."
