Andrews thoughts for the day

May

Lighthouse

1st May

"In my distress I called to the Lord; I cried to my God for help. From His temple He heard my voice; my cry came before Him, into His ears......He reached down from high and took hold of me; He drew me out of deep waters. "

(Psalm 18 vs 6 and 16).

The first of May! 'May Day' has many associations, ranging from a celebration of spring time in song and dance; washing ones face in beautifying May dew; parades in major capitals of the world; etc., as well as emergency and crisis calls - May Day! May Day! ; 999! ; or SOS!

In our  verses today there is such a call from someone who in dire straits makes such a call - 'God help me!' This emergency call doesn't fall of deaf ears - the call is heard by the ears of God and there is a response as the Lord reaches down in a rescue mission. Another Psalm in 66 v 19 underlines this response, '..but God surely listened and heard my voice in prayer'. Our God has responded supremely in Jesus who is our Sav-iour, and is the one  who says to us, 'Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest, (Matthew Ch 11 v 28). His Word invites us to ,'Cast all our anxiety on Him because He cares for you.'(1Peter Ch 5 v 7). We make this May Day a Pray Day   for the Lord is only a prayer away.

"I heard the voice of Jesus say, 'Come unto me and rest, lay down, thou weary one, lay down, thy head upon my breast.' I came to Jesus as I was, weary, and worn, and sad, I found in Him a resting place, and He has made me glad".

A prayer:- "Thank you, Lord, for the assurance that you are there for me today. Help me to feel the embrace of  Your everlasting arms around me." Amen

2nd May

36 As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, “Look, here is water. What can stand in the way of my being baptised?”  38 And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptised him. 39 When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him again, but went on his way rejoicing. Acts 8:36-39
